In 2013 the Wicklow Regatta Festival will be entering its 135th year and as such is steeped in tradition. It provides free family friendly activities and entertainment to Wicklow and the wider community at a time when large numbers of families are experiencing economic difficulties. It is encouraging to see the enthusiasm from all those involved and that the Regatta brings out a sense of community spirit in the town.
The goal is to provide a festival to the Wicklow community and surrounding areas. We aim to include the whole community through open participation and social inclusion at all events and activities throughout the festival. Our objective is that these social occasions and events add to the quality of life in the community and create good memories for all who participate. The committee endeavour to cater for all age groups in the programme of events while also maintaining key traditional events. We also aim to bring visitors, old and new, to the festival and we continue to welcome our emigrants who return every year especially for the festival. We fundraise tirelessly to ensure that all of our events are free of charge (except the Regatta Queen Ball). We are conscious that in the current climate the Wicklow Regatta Festival is the only holiday some families will have.
Our events include: Young At Heart night – caters for mature community members, Singing Pubs competition, Family Sports Day, Childrens Fancy Dress, Teddy Bears Picnic, Treasure Hunts – childrens, car & adults, Musical events including Battle of the Bands, Ceili, Gig Rigs (open air music), Regatta Queen Ball, Fireworks display, Raft Race, Golly Fishing and many more events.
